Home Depot is recalling nearly 190,000 ceiling fans because the blades can fly off during use. A few have injured consumers and damaged property, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The recall involves Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fans, made in four finishes — matte white, matte black, black, and polished nickel. The fans come with a white color-changing integrated LED light and remote control. The fans were sold for about $150 exclusively at Home Depot stores and online at HomeDepot.com from April 2020 through October 2020.
The blades of the fan can detach while in use. To date, the firm has received 47 reports of blades detaching, including two reports of the fan blade hitting a consumer and four reports of the blades causing property damage.
The recalled products can be identified with the following UPC numbers, which are printed on a silver rating label located on the top of the fan:
- Matte white – 082392519186
- Matte black – 082392519193
- Black – 082392599195
- Polished nickel – 082392599188
